It is with great sadness that we learnt of the sudden passing of Dr David Grignon in January 2020.

Dr Grignon was a passionate supporter of the work of the ICCR, leading the development of a suite of urinary tract datasets to improve the care and outcomes of patients diagnosed with these cancers. He chaired a large team of experts from across the world to develop four global datasets and had the energy and passion to co-author four associated journal publications.

Dr Grignon worked tirelessly to advance the field of urological pathology and improve cancer patient outcomes across the world. He collaborated extensively with many major pathology and oncology organisations, including ISUP of which he was a recent past President, to advance our understanding of urological tumours. He gave up his time so generously to travel and present at numerous invited meetings, lectures and courses over the years, right up until the end of 2019.

His very generous and thoughtful contributions will be missed across the cancer pathology world for years to come. As one of the ICCR committee members said “He was a great colleague, friend and giant in the field of genitourinary pathology. It is a huge loss to our community. He touched us all.” To everyone that worked with him he was a true gentleman.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with Dr Grignon on the ICCR pathology datasets. The ICCR extends our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. His friendship and leadership will be sorely missed by many.
