In memoriam – Dr Sambit Mohanty

It is with great sadness that we learnt of the sudden passing of Dr Sambit Mohanty on 16 January.

With a vision to spread his knowledge and mentor his local medical community, Dr Mohanty moved back to India after fellowships and residencies in the USA where he led several medical and research facilities. His latest role was as Director of Anatomical pathology and Research at Core Diagnostics, Haryana, India.

He has been described as a trailblazer in the field of onco-pathology and uropathology. He was instrumental in hosting the first international cancer congress of its kind on urologic oncology and urologic pathology held at Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, in collaboration with Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS) earlier in January.

Dr Mohanty was renowned for his unwavering commitment to excellence and his willingness to help mentor others. He has been described as a visionary in Pathology, an educator, and a compassionate soul whose dedication will continue to inspire us.

Dr Mohanty was a highly valued member of the ICCR Kidney dataset authoring committee. His passing is great loss to the uropathology and pathology community globally.

Working with Dr Mohanty was an honour for us all. He will be deeply missed by everyone who worked with him over many years.

The ICCR extends our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
